Scruffy Club has been running since September and is growing in numbers. We now have 13 children on our books and the children appear to be having a great time. This term we have been learning about being a friend of Jesus, the people he met and the impact he had on their lives eg Zacchaeus, Mary and Martha, the blind man and the woman at the well.
Our session starts with a circle time generally run by a few of our Youth where the children pass a ball or teddy to each other and talk about ‘What makes a good friend?’ and ‘Who is special to you?’ We then play a few games which the children love and then the parachute comes out. The children have lots of fun running under the parachute and playing cat and mouse. This is where one child is the mouse under the parachute and then another child is the cat on top of the parachute trying to catch the mouse. We then have a time of worship where the children learn some great songs before going upstairs to watch a short DVD based on our story. We always have a craft time and the children have taken home decorated mirrors, mosaic frames and leaf printing pictures. Then, our star Scruffy arrives and shares with children our message before we all say our Scruffy Club prayer;
‘Thank you Jesus for Scruffy Club. Thank you that you love us. Amen’

The children go mad for Scruffy and every week some of the children bring him pictures and one little boy made his own Scruffy dog puppet which he brought to show us. It was fantastic.

On December 14th we will be having our Scruffy Club Christmas Party and I know that Scruffy is very excited about this. He can’t wait to play lots of fun games and also share with the children the true meaning of Christmas.

Thank you to all who help at Scruffy Club and also thank you to those who continue to pray for the club. We are very thankful to God that he has brought these wonderful children to Thornton Methodist Church so that we can share the gospel with them. It is truly amazing!
